Tamco History:

Originally founded in the 1950s as Ta Morrison & Co., the company shifted its focus to dampers in the 1980s under the leadership of Ron Chappell. With meticulous attention to design and quality, Tamco introduced aluminum and insulated dampers that redefined durability, energy efficiency, and performance. This innovation fueled Tamco’s growth, increasing its annual revenues from under $1 million in the early 1990s to establishing the company as a key player in Canada. Tamco further solidified its reputation and market position by developing a North American representative network, enabling the widespread distribution of its high-quality dampers.

In 1993, Denis Labelle introduced a sales-driven strategy that significantly expanded Tamco’s reach. His efforts helped increase the company’s Canadian market share to approximately 70% by 2022. Labelle’s approach, combined with co-owner Cynthia Arnoldi’s financially disciplined management style, ensured sustainable growth. Together, they successfully consolidated three plants into a single facility.

The 2010s marked a period of explosive growth for Tamco, driven by its reputation for precision engineering and quality. Tamco’s dampers became integral to the designs of leading air handler manufacturers working within the Data Center industry. Leveraging its representative network across Canada, Tamco secured contracts by providing reliable, high-performance products. This helped increase revenues from CAD 20 million in 2013 to CAD 67 million by 2022.

While data centers remain Tamco’s largest revenue driver, Tamco continues to meet demand from sectors like hospitals and K-12 schools. By prioritizing innovation, attention to detail, and engineering excellence, Tamco has firmly established itself as a leader in air control solutions.

In April 2023, Tamco was acquired by SPX Technologies as part of it’s HVAC segment as an expansion of it’s Engineered Air Movement (EAM) solutions. SPX Technologies is a supplier of highly engineered products and technologies, holding leadership positions in the HVAC and detection and measurements markets. SPX Technologies’ EAM business is a leading manufacturer of industrial fans, blowers, critical exhaust systems, dampers, and other air movement and air control products.
